Dr Luigi Gallo has been working as Senior Research Scientist at the CNR-ICAR since 2006, leading the Augmented Human-Computer Interaction (AHCI) research team. He is involved in the coordination of several research projects in the fields of ICT for health and cultural heritage applications. Dr Luigi Gallo's research interests include computer vision, pattern recognition, natural user interfaces and human interface aspects of virtual and augmented reality. He is the author of almost 100 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed international journals, conference proceedings and books. He serves as Associate Editor of the Pattern Recognition Letters journal and is a member of the Steering Committee of the IEEE SITIS conference.
George Zissis

Mr. George Zissis (m) (BSc, MSc in Laser Physics from Moscow State University M.V.Lomonosov). He is Certified Data Protection Officer Executive by TUV Austria. Currently a Senior Project Manager at ATC, he has more than 20 years of experience in R&D projects, having worked for Systema Technologies SA (1999-2011) as a senior researcher and project coordinator, and for the Informatics and Telematics Institute (ITI/CERTH) (2011-2012) as a Research Associate. He has participated in various ICT National and European projects in the field of Personal Data Protection and GDPR deployment, IoT Technologies and Services, Big Data processing and analytics, Smart Cities Services, Assistive Technologies for the Elderly and the Disabled and Healthcare Services.

Samira Maghool received her Ph.D. degree in Physics of Complex Systems at the Alzahra University, Tehran, Iran in 2020. She has been a visiting researcher at the SESAR LAB in 2018-2020. She is currently a Research Assistant at the Dipartimento di Informatica “Giovanni Degli Antoni” of the Università degli Studi di Milano. Her research interests are Complex networks, Graph Representation Learning, Graph Embedding, Epidemic spreading, Computational Social Science, Explainable Artificial Intelligence and Modelling complex phenomena as agent-based simulations. Carlos Agostinho

Carlos Agostinho is a senior researcher at UNINOVA Center of Technology and Systems (CTS) and digital transformation expert. He holds a PhD in the area of industrial information systems by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT/UNL) and has an MsC in Computer Science from the same school. Having a large experience in industrial driven research projects since CEN/AIDIMA/2002/004 funSTEP AP-DIS until the most recent H2020 VesselAI, Carlos is deeply committed to take research results closer to the industrial paradigm. Being quite experienced in research and coordination activities due to his work in several national and international research and development projects since 2001, Carlos is the author of more than 100 scientific publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings and developed skills in the areas of the Internet of Things (IoT), Enterprise Interoperability, Knowledge and Data Management, Integration of Complex Systems and Components, as well as Model-Driven Development. Currently, and always believing that technology across domains is an enabler of progress and social transformation, he has also been working in digital transformation in the healthcare sector, to improve interoperability, efficiency, safety and care quality.

Dr. Maria J. Santofimia (F) received the Ph.D. degree in Computing Engineering by the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain, where she is working in the Department of Technologies and Information Systems. She has been a research visitor in Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA (USA) in 2009 and 2011, where she has collaborated with members of the Language Technologies Institute. Her research interests include intelligent systems, ambient intelligence, Internet of Things, digital solutions for active and healthy aging and ehealth. She is currently member of the CSN Sub-Group on Artificial Intelligence, connected products and other new challenges in product safety of the European Commission.
Maria Marques
Senior Researcher at UNINOVA
Completed her graduation in Electrical and Computers Engineering at Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT/UNL, 2001), and developed her Master of Science in the area of simulation methodologies to control distributed systems (FCT/UNL, 2005). From 2003 to 2012, she worked as a researcher at UNINOVA, developing work in the area of intelligent decision support systems. In 2012 she obtained her PhD degree by FCT/UNL in the area of decision support systems for life-cycle management of industrial plants (FCT-/UNL, 2012). Since then, she has been working as a senior researcher at UNINOVA with strong coordination responsibilities in the scope of several European projects (FP7, H2020) targeting industrial environments. Research interests include topics of data collection systems, systems interoperability and intelligent decision support systems. Published more than 30 papers and contributions in international peer review journals and conferences. Currently, her focus is in the area of health and wellbeing-related data and systems in the scope of Smart4Health project in which she has been also acting as deputy project coordinator.

Pablo Guerrero is a software engineer with a passion for building digital products. Pablo obtained a Systems Engineering degree in Argentina, followed by a PhD in Computer Science in the area of distributed systems at the TU Darmstadt in Germany. For over 10 years, his work in the software industry has focused on bringing innovative products in the health-tech space to the market. Pablo has worked both in a startup as well as large enterprise, global setups, often with data-intensive applications that require an underlying reliable infrastructure. At Data4Life, he and his team support the definition and end-to-end execution of public-funded projects that enable developing company products further.
Francesco Torelli

Francesco TORELLI is a senior researcher at Engineering Ingegneria Informatica (EII). He holds a master's degree in Physics and a post-degree qualification in Software Engineering. His main IT competencies are in Software requirements specification and design, Object Orientation and SOA, Data modelling, Knowledge Representation, Logic programming, Semantic Web. He is a certified PMP since 2008, ITIL since 2011, SCRUM (Master and Product Owner) since 2018, TOGAF 9 since 2019. In 2002 he joined EII and since then he has been involved in conceiving and developing several Italian and European research projects (e.g. SLA@SOI, MARKOS) aiming to produce tools and frameworks to simplify the development of Object Oriented and Service Oriented applications. During last years he contributed to research projects for health care (e.g. I-DON'T-FALL, PATHway, eHealthNet, CrowdHealth) focusing on health data integration, decision support, execution and monitoring of clinical pathways, applied to domains such as wellness, fall prevention, cardiac rehabilitation, breast cancer management and prevention. Currently Mr. Torelli is the Scientific and Technical coordinator of InteropEHRate, a European Research and Innovation Action aiming at defining and experimenting, a set of new open (i.e. vendor independent) communication protocols, for the secure exchange of health data among citizens, healthcare organisations and research institutions.

Robin Rae

Robin Rae is a social scientific researcher at the STS department at the University of Vienna. He is affiliated with the department since his STS specialization in his study of Sociology combined with Psychology and Educational sciences. After graduating in 2008, he deepened his research interest through a Postgraduate program at the Center for Social Innovation (CSI), Vienna, and a Postgraduate program at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), Vienna, in the "Sociology of social practices". During his PhD at the STS department, which investigates practices of (e)valuating technological change in everyday life, Robin was a visiting fellow at the Science and Justice Research Center (SJRC), University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC), and conducted ethnographic field work in the US and Austria. His main research interest is located at the broad intersection of users and technology, how each affect another, and how everyday life spaces matter for evaluative practices. Currently, Robin is part of the Social Sciences and Humanities research team that leads the Work Package 1 on co-creation in the citizen-centered H2020 project Smart4Health.

Before working at Aphaia, Cristina worked as a Project Manager at an international trade company based in Vietnam, and participated as companies' defence counsel in the Madrid Court of Arbitration for the resolution of e-commerce and e-advertising disputes.

Lukas Martin is a Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer at the Clinomic Group, a holding company that combines state-of-the-art research with modern technologies and rethinks critical care medicine. He graduated in Medicine and Health Business Administration and received with honors the Venia legendi in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at RWTH Aachen University. He is a consultant and group lead at the Department of Intensive and Intermediate Care at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen and a honorary senior visiting lecturer at Queen Mary University, School of Medicine and Dentistry, London. His expertise lies in translational medicine combining basic and clinical research with data-driven methods and artificial intelligence. His projects are supported by several funding organizations including the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the European Institute for Innovation & Technology (EIT Health), a body of the European Union in the framework of HORIZON 2020. While the Catholic University of Leuven (KULeuven, BE) was her alma mater, her professional path took her to Hasselt University (BE) to obtain a PhD in rehabilitation sciences and later to Maastricht University (NL). Her first passions were exercise therapy and cardiac rehabilitation, and she was both researcher and trainer in this field. Even now, she trains persons with chronic diseases next to her main job in Maastricht. As a project manager at IDEE (a brilliant team of engineers developing tools for researchers and clinicians) in Maastricht, she combined the viewpoints of researchers-clinicians-patients-developers when looking at technical developments in the health domain. IDEE and affiliated product incubator Maastricht Instruments participate(d) in Interreg projects (e.g. i2-CoRT, WIT4Health, WIT4COVID) and European projects (e.g. EnSo, Smart4Health, Pharaon, Moore4Medical, STARS). The focus for future developments lie in the field of wearable healthcare including health data management, automation in life sciences and indirect calorimetry.

Tiago Miranda is a Chief Inspector of the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), currently stationed in the Comando Regional da PSP in Madeira. Prof. Barnoy began her academic studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem's nursing department and graduated in 1986 with distinction. After, she continued her studies for her M.Sc. and her Ph.D. at the department of Human Genetics at Tel-Aviv University. She joined the senior faculty of the Nursing Department at Tel-Aviv University in 2004 and now acts as the head of the nursing department. She has mentored 48 graduate and Ph.D. students and published 74 peer-reviewed articles. Her studies were funded by the Israel National Institute for Health Policy Research, The Israel Cancer Research Fund, and the Shalem Foundation. Her research focuses on two main topics: Nursing and technologies and Genetic Nursing .

Marko Djoric

The main fields of his research work are energy planning, system analyses, energy system modelling, energy efficiency in households and transport, and the use of multi criteria analytical methods in decision-making support. As a project coordinator, he participates in projects on the analysis of national support scheme for electricity produced from renewable energy sources and electricity and heat cogeneration. He was involved in the projections of long-term energy balance and the preparation of strategic planning documents in the field of energy. Before he joined JSI-EEC team in 2014, he worked as a technical assistant in the Department of Solid State Physics (F-5) at JSI. He worked as a researcher in the field of polymer nanocomposites and airborne nanoparticle detection. He also coordinated projects on measurements for external clients/contractors.

Marlene Seara has a degree in Accounting and Business Management, has extensive experience in promoting, preparing and monitoring applications/projects for national and European programs to support R&D and other types. She also has extensive experience in coordinating and managing partnerships between companies and non-business entities of the R&D system, leading to the creation of new products, processes or systems, as well as the introduction of significant improvements in existing products, processes or systems. She gave several training actions in the area of "Project Management to Incentive Systems" within the scope of the various support programs. Last but not least, she took on the role of quality manager in an entity dedicated to consulting on research support programs in companies. She is currently part of the Vieira & Lopes RDI team since December 2021, where she is responsible for coordinating the department. As head of this Department, she has sought to promote the development of RDI activities that contribute to the emergence of innovative products with added value in the area of air purification.
Christos Kontzinos

Mr. Christos Kontzinos is a researcher specializing in technologies such as Blockchain, AI, and Big Data and their implementation in thematic areas such as Education, Maritime, Healthcare, and Manufacturing among others. He holds an M.Eng. degree from Electrical and Computer Engineering school of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the DSS lab of the NTUA. Mr Kontzinos has over six years of experience as a researcher mostly focusing on EU-funded projects and other research initiatives. He has worked for several EU-funded research projects including ToyLabs, QualiChain and VesselAI as a researcher. He is competent at researching and project management tasks, preparing and executing pilot cases, as well as preparing and submitting proposals for H2020 programmes. His research interests include Blockchain, AI, and Big Data as well as legal and ethical compliance of ICT solutions focusing mostly on the GDPR and various Ethical AI frameworks and initiatives.

As a Director of the Digital Manufacturing Innovation hub Wales (DMIW), based in the Waterton Technology Centre, in partnership with Control 2K Limited, we develop Industry 4.0 software and services to support businesses around the UK. Anabela Pronto was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1967. She received the Dipl. Eng. Degree in Materials Engineering from NOVA School of Sciences and Technology (FCT NOVA) of NOVA University of Lisbon, in 1992. In 1996, she began her career in Electrical Department of FCT NOVA, as lecturer, in the field of energy and electrical machines. In 2010, she received her PhD degree in energy field. Jointly with teaching and research work in energy field, from 1994 to 2003 she also participated in European Union projects, through FCT NOVA, in the field of systems of energy production and conversion, and their social, environmental and economic implications. A great number of these projects are concerning developing countries. Since 2010, she is assistant professor at FCT NOVA in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Her main research activities and interests are in the field of energy materials technology, namely ferromagnetic materials at low temperature, energy efficiency, applied superconductivity to energy power systems, including storage, and electrical machines. The field of energy markets is also emerging as one of her areas of research, with several master students working in this field. She is member of Centre of Technology and Systems, Uninova (Portugal) and since 2010, she has published 23 scientific papers in international journals with referees, many of them in the field of applied superconductivity for power systems, 5 book chapters and 18 in international conferences. She has also collaborated in several R&D projects in the field of energy efficiency such as, for example, Storage4Grid, NobelGrid and SHBuildings, and in applied superconductivity in tLOSS project (Losses in high temperature superconducting power systems, FCT IP, 032508, 2019-2022). Presently she participates in the H2020 European Project, ZDMP (H2020- DT-ICT-07-2018-2019, n. 825631), IANOS (H2020-LC-SC3-2020, n.957810, 2020-2024) and POCITYF (H2020-LC-SC3-2018-2019, n. 864400, 2019-2024), among others. Jorge Miguel Alberto de Miranda, President of IPMA, the Portuguese Institute for the Ocean and the Atmosphere. Full Professor of Geophysics at the University of Lisbon. Former director of Instituto Dom Luiz (Associate Laboratory) from 2004 to 2011. President of the Council of the European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecast 2017-2019. Member of the Executive Board of WMO RAVI 2014-2016. Member of the General Council of the University of Lisbon 2011-2012. He studied at the University of Lisbon, where he graduated in 1981 in Physics. Full Professor since 2011. His research activity is focused on Marine Geophysics and Natural Hazards. He is author or co-author of more than 100 publications listed in the web of science, and published in leading ISI journals, namely: Journal of Geophysical Research, Earth and Planetary Science Letters, Geophysical Research Letters and Nature, with more than 2000 citations. Élvio Rúbio Gouveia

Élvio Rúbio Gouveia is Vice-President of Interactive Technologies Institute of Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems, and the Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, University of Madeira, where he is Assistant Professor. Élvio Rúbio Gouveia collaborates with the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Gerontology and Vulnerability (CIGEV), University of Geneva, Switzerland. In the last five years, he has supervised 1 PhD thesis and currently, he is supervising 6 PhD theses. He also supervised or co-advised 40+ MSc theses at the University of Madeira and Saint Joseph of Cluny Higher School of Nursing. Élvio Rúbio Gouveia holds a PhD in Sports Science and a BSc and MSc in Physical Education and Sports, all from the University of Madeira (2011, 2007, 2003). Élvio Rúbio Gouveia has published more than a hundred peer-reviewed papers in Sports Science and Physical Activity and Health topics, 52 in Q1 and 24 in Q2 Journals. Élvio Rúbio Gouveia collaborates as a reviewer in more than 20 peer-reviewed journals, such as Preventive Medicine, Scientific Reports, Journal of Aging and Physical Activity. Currently, he is involved as the editorial board of Frontiers in Sports and Active Living - Physical Education and Pedagogy, and as guest Editor for Sensors and International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, leading special issues in Sports and Applied Technologies topics. Élvio Rúbio Gouveia has participated as principal investigator in 3 funded projects and 5 as a researcher member in the last five years, holding more than 20 MSc students with research grants. In the area of university management, ERG held positions of Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, vice-president of the Scientific Council of the Social Sciences Faculty, and member of several core commissions of the Department of Physical Education and Sports.
João Pedro Mendonça

João P. Mendonça graduated in Mechanical Eng. in University of Minho and holds an equivalent MsC degree in Manufacturing Technologies. After graduation his professional and industrial career started in an Industrial Refrigeration company, head of Technical Department after three years experience. He is Professor at the Mechanical Eng. Department at the School of Engineering of the University of Minho and responsible for the Metrological Laboratory. His research interests are in the realm of computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), next generation agile manufacturing, metrological information modelling and knowledge management, FIWARE and open standards-based PLM frameworks. He developed several Lab prototipes in the Industrial Robotics field, namely in the iFactory Bosch project focused in agile production planning and logistics. He has authored several international publications, including one book chapter on ontology based engineering application and served as Enterprise Information Management Chair of ASME CIE division. He is member of ASME American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He co-authored two international patents.

He is a Telecommunication Consultant with ten years of experience in Smart City services and Internet of Things solutions. He is the Product Owner of the City Governance Centre and Data Management and Analytics platforms. Filipe Cabral Pinto is the Coordinator of the P2020 5G Auto project, focused on intelligent systems for mobility. He is the 5G infrastructure Work Package Leader in the mobilizing project City Catalyst, which aims to design sustainable future cities. He is a Visiting Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu for Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Data Analysis (Machine Learning). He has long experience interacting with EU R&D projects with multicultural teams in an international environment. He has a track record of success in identifying opportunities for R&D projects with partners worldwide. Since 2002 he has participated in national and European research projects, namely NETGATE, Everest, B-BONE, C-MOBILE, C-CAST, Voices, IoT.est, CarCoDe, BESOS, CityAction and Aveiro STEAM City. Author of more than 50 technical publications, inventor of 2 patents, and trainer for Machine Learning, IoT, IMS, and LTE projects. He has supervised BSc, MSc, and PhD students from different academies and has mentored internships at Altice Labs. He was also the author of the novel "Story of a hypochondriac who wanted to put the c of cedilla in the alphabet".

Miguel Pinto is Head of Knowledge Valorization at idD Portugal Defence. He has an extensive experience in innovation projects in both the public and the private sectors. Previously he was Communication Advisor to the Minister of Finance, Business and Innovation Manager at CEiiA - Centre of Engineering and Product Development, Business Director at PRIO.E Electric Mobility Solutions, and Project Manager at INTELI, a think-tank focused on innovation policies. Miguel has a degree in Economics by ISEG - University of Lisbon (1999) and a MSc. in Economics and Management of Science and Technology by ISEG (2004). José Manuel Figueiredo Moreira is an Army Colonel. He has a degree in Military Sciences - Infantry specialty, by the Military Academy. He also has the Piloto-Aviador course of the Portuguese Air Force, the Estado Maior course of the Instituto Universitário Militar (IUM) and technical-professional training at national and international level. During his professional career, he worked as a pilot at Esquadra 552 of the Air Force, at FAMET in Logronho, Spain and at the Unidade de Aviação Ligeira do Exército, where he was Commander of the Helicopter Unit. Most recently, he was a professor at the Instituto Universitário Militar and “Deputy Branch Head” of the Department for Innovation at “Allied Command Transformation” in Norfolk. He is currently the Head of the Capabilities Area in the Innovation and Transformation Division of EMGFA.

Fábio Januário is a researcher at UNINOVA Center of Technology and Systems (CTS). He holds a PhD in the area of control and systems by the NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA of the NOVA University of Lisbon, and has an MsC in Electrical Engineering from the same school. Research interests include topics of cyber-physical systems, wireless sensors and actuator networks, resilient systems and control and decision support systems.
Carla Alves

Completed her Bachelor of Science (2000) and Bachelor of Science with Honours (2001) degrees in the field of Microbiology at the Faculty of Science of the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and developed her Master of Science degree in Biochemistry at the same University (2004). In 2011, she obtained her PhD in Chemistry with specialization in Biochemistry at the CQM - Centro de Química da Madeira of the Universidade da Madeira (Portugal). With over 15 years of experience in research development in the health and life sciences, her work was mainly focused on the development of alternative nanotechnology-based strategies for treating and targeting diseases (e.g., contrast agents for cancer cell imaging, inhibition of emergent diseases such as dengue virus and zika virus). Throughout this time, she also undertook multiple roles and responsibilities, having gained extensive experience in the supervision of students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, teaching, laboratory management and the management of the numerous scientific dissemination activities. To date, she has 19 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 2 submitted manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals, 1 book chapter, several invited oral communications at both international and national conferences, and 19 communications by poster. More recently, her research interests are focused on the development of digital solutions in the Health Sector. She is currently a researcher and project manager in the EU Horizon 2020 project, Smart4Health, at Secretaria Regional de Turismo e Cultura in Madeira.
